A young talent from Oslo, Casper represents a new generation of artists coming up through the scene. This mix gives a glimpse into his sound and the direction he’s developing. As with the rest of the series, we continue to highlight artists connected to the DGS journey, with a closer look beyond just the music.
Can you describe yourself in 1–2 sentences?
A Norwegian, Oslo based music producer.
What is your relationship to DGS, and what has the platform meant to you?
DGS has been hosting some of the best parties in Oslo for years, and I got introduced to them through the parties. Big fan of their sound and vision, cool to have something like that coming from Oslo.
How would you describe your expression as a DJ/producer today compared to when you first started?
When I started producing minimal/house it was all about making music I could DJ, but I've recently been reminded that I didn't start producing to become a DJ, DJ'ing is just a great way to play my music in front of people.
So I have left the pressure to create something that has to hit properly on the dance floor behind, and now focus more on creating more expressive tracks with more soul and feeling tied to them.
What kind of story or atmosphere did you want to convey with this mix?
With this I wanted to go for a gritty, deep and souly atmosphere. Joyful, groovy tracks that makes you smile.
Which 2–3 tracks from the mix would you like to highlight, and why?
I'd like to highlight the first and fifth track since they are my own productions. And the last track, just because it's super sick and inspiring.
There is a lot of talk about negative trends in the underground scene and how everything was better before. What positive trends to you see in the club scene and underground right now?
I see a lot of openness for a bigger variety of music, which I really like to see. Also the dance floor etiquette is sharpened, I feel like people are acting nicer and more respectfully towards each other.
Are there any new artists or talents you think people should keep an eye on?
Pancratio, COZi & JNJS, that I can think of right this moment. There are so many more.
